How to sponsor a TikTok creator

Short answer

To sponsor a TikTok creator, pay for a native video the creator films in their own style, then run it as a Spark Ad using an authorization code from the creator. Brands can find, brief, and pay creators through TikTok One, which absorbed Creator Marketplace in 2025. The creator must switch on TikTok's commercial content disclosure setting, which adds a Paid partnership label.

TikTok rewards speed and punishes polish. A sponsored TikTok works when it looks like the creator's other videos, goes up while the format is still fresh, and then gets a second life as a paid ad. Each of those steps has its own TikTok tool and its own trap.

What sponsorship formats work on TikTok?

Four formats cover most TikTok deals: a single sponsored video, a series of videos, a Spark Ad built from the creator's post, and a TikTok Shop affiliate video. They are often combined, for example a series where the best video becomes a Spark Ad.

Format How it works Best for How it is paid
Sponsored video The creator posts one video about your product on their account Testing a new creator Flat fee
Series Three or more videos over a few weeks Products people need to see more than once Package fee
Spark Ad You pay to promote the creator's post, which still runs from their account Scaling a video that already works Fee to the creator plus your ad spend
TikTok Shop affiliate video The creator tags your product from your TikTok Shop Brands already selling in TikTok Shop Commission per sale, sometimes plus a fee

Buy a series over a one-off. Two videos from the same creator can land very differently on the For You feed, so one post is a small sample. Three videos give you a fairer read on the creator and give viewers more than one chance to remember your name.

Why does a sponsored TikTok have to look native?

A sponsored TikTok has to look like the creator's normal videos because the creator's style is what their audience chose to watch. A polished brand spot dropped into that feed reads as an ad, and viewers can swipe past it with one thumb.

Write a brief, not a script. Give the creator the product, one main message, the claims they must and must not make, and the disclosure rules. Leave the hook, the format, and the edit to them. Our brief template has the structure.

TikTok One supports this way of working. A project brief lets you set video requirements and guidelines, and after a draft passes TikTok's own review you can send up to five edit requests. Plan on using one. A video revised five times by a committee tends to look like it.

Native also means vertical, filmed on a phone, with the creator talking. Send product, not a mood board of your brand ads.

You need to move fast enough that a creator can post within days of spotting a trend, which means your approval has to fit inside 24 to 48 hours. Content built on a trending format loses value quickly, and a two-week legal review kills it.

Pre-approve the boundaries instead of every word. Agree in advance on the claims, the words to avoid, and the topics that are off limits. Then give yourself a 24-hour window to review the finished video, and write into the contract that silence means approval.

Watch the music. TikTok says songs in its General Music Library are not cleared for commercial content and are not available to brands. Its Commercial Music Library, about 1 million pre-cleared songs, covers organic posts, ads, and branded content. A creator who puts this week's viral song under your sponsored video may be creating a copyright problem, and that problem follows the video into Spark Ads. Ask for a cleared track or original audio in the brief.

What is TikTok One, and how does a brand get access?

TikTok One is TikTok's platform for brands to find creators, run paid collaborations, and turn creator posts into ads. It replaced the standalone TikTok Creator Marketplace in 2025, and creators had to move to TikTok One for new brand campaigns after March 10, 2025.

It bundles several tools. Creator Marketplace handles discovery and campaigns. Creator AI Search builds a shortlist of up to 200 creators from a written brief. Partner Exchange, formerly TikTok Creative Exchange, connects you with approved creative agencies. Content Suite finds existing posts about your brand to boost, though TikTok lists it as a global beta.

To run a campaign, your business must be verified. You create a Creator marketing project, set the brief and the ad authorization period, and then invite creators directly, open the project to applications, or share an invite link. With a direct invitation or an open application, creators can counter your price, and once one accepts, you pay up front. TikTok One holds the money and pays the creator after the video is published. An invite link works differently: TikTok says it supports only offline pricing and payment, so you agree and pay the fee outside the platform. Videos posted through these projects have the disclosure setting turned on automatically.

Which brands have to use TikTok One?

Brands in TikTok's restricted industries have to use TikTok One, and some industries cannot run branded content on TikTok at all. TikTok's Branded Content Policy, in force since August 31, 2026, lists restricted categories that include alcohol, dating apps, energy drinks, financial services such as loans and insurance, over-the-counter medicines, prescription medicines in the US and Canada only, vitamin supplements, gambling and real-money games, and underwear. Brands in these categories need explicit permission from TikTok and a Registered Business Account, and may only partner with creators through TikTok One. Their posts show only in the market where they were published, are often limited to adults, and are banned outright in many countries. Vitamin supplement content, for example, is allowed for over-18s in the US and UK but not at all in Australia or Ireland.

Other categories are banned from branded content entirely. These include weight-loss products and services, such as weight-loss clinics, fat-burning pills, and appetite suppressants, along with CBD, tobacco and vapes, payday loans, medical treatments including nutritionists and telehealth providers, and prescription drugs outside the US and Canada. So are medical and cosmetic clinics, including dental practices and tattoo shops, and legal and accounting services. The local business guide covers where those businesses should go instead.

How much does it cost to sponsor a TikTok creator?

TikTok creators usually charge a flat fee per video based on their typical views, with extra for Spark Ads authorization, exclusivity, and usage rights. Influencer Marketing Hub's 2026 TikTok rate guide gives these rough ranges:

Followers Typical rate per video, 2026
1,000 to 10,000 $50 to $200
10,000 to 100,000 $200 to $800
100,000 to 1 million $800 to $5,000
Over 1 million $5,000 to $50,000+

The publisher calls these benchmarks, not fixed fees, and does not say how it derived them. Collabstr's 2026 report, based on more than 21,000 collaborations on its marketplace, put the average TikTok collaboration at $186, below Instagram at $193 and YouTube at $255.

Price on views, not followers, and use the median. TikTok views swing hard from post to post, and one viral video can double a creator's average while telling you nothing about the next post. Say a creator's last 20 videos have a median of 25,000 views. If you are willing to pay $15 per 1,000 views, that is $375 a video before any Spark Ads fee.

Price the Spark Ads right by duration. A 30-day authorization should cost less than 365 days. Rates move constantly, so check your numbers in the cost calculator and our guide to creator sponsorship costs.

How does TikTok's disclosure setting work?

TikTok's disclosure setting is a toggle the creator turns on when posting, and for a paid deal it adds a Paid partnership label to the video. The creator taps Content disclosure and ads on the post screen, turns on Disclose commercial content, and picks Branded content. They can then tag you under Brand partnership. The other option, Your brand, is for promoting the creator's own business and adds a Commercial content label instead.

TikTok's Branded Content Policy makes the toggle mandatory for content posted in exchange for payment or another incentive. That includes gifted products, affiliate commissions, promo-code commissions, and brand ambassador deals. TikTok says posts without proper disclosure may be removed or restricted. Where the law requires it, labelled posts can also be added to TikTok's Commercial Content Library.

The label may not cover you on its own. The FTC tells influencers not to rely on a platform's disclosure tool alone, so ask the creator to say it is sponsored in the video and put "ad" or "sponsored" in the caption.

TikTok's policy puts legal compliance on the creator. The FTC's view is that "your company is ultimately responsible for what others do on your behalf," so check every post. Our guide to disclosure rules covers the US, UK, and EU.

How do Spark Ads and authorization codes work?

Spark Ads let you pay to promote a creator's organic post from the creator's own account, and the creator grants that right with an authorization code. Likes, comments, shares, and follows from the ad are credited to the original post, so the creator's video keeps the social proof.

The process runs in two steps:

  1. The creator allows authorized posts in their profile settings, opens Ad settings on the video, agrees to the advertising terms, turns on Ad authorization, generates a code, picks a duration of 7, 30, 60, or 365 days, and copies the code to you.
  2. You open Tools in TikTok Ads Manager, go to the Creative library, select Spark ads posts, click Apply for Authorization, and paste the code.

In TikTok One you can skip the code exchange. When a project video is ready to publish, you request Spark authorization from the creator and sync the video to Ads Manager.

Know the limits before you plan creative. The ad's display name and text come from the organic post and cannot be edited in Ads Manager, so get the caption right before posting. Spark Ads videos can run up to 10 minutes.

Pay for 30 or 60 days first. If the ad works, extending is a short negotiation. If it does not, you have not paid for a year of rights you will never use. See usage rights and whitelisting for the contract language.

Should you use TikTok Shop affiliates instead of paying a fee?

Use TikTok Shop affiliates if you already sell through TikTok Shop and your margins can carry a commission, and add a fee when you need a specific creator to post. Affiliate deals pay creators only when a sale happens, which shifts the risk to them.

An open collaboration makes your products available for any TikTok Shop creator to promote. You set a commission between 1 and 80 percent of gross merchandise value (GMV), the order amount, for each order. You can require approval before creators join and offer free samples.

A target collaboration is the invite-only version, for creators you pick. If a product is in both, the target rate always wins, and TikTok recommends setting it higher. Invited sellers can also set a separate Shop Ads commission for orders that come from ads using a creator's video.

Commission-only deals suit small creators who already sell in your category. Expect creators with a proven sales record to ask for a flat fee on top. A hybrid deal splits the risk: a smaller guaranteed fee, plus a commission that pays the creator more when the video sells.

What should you measure, and what data should you ask for?

Measure watch time, shares, clicks, and sales, and ask for the creator's analytics before you book. TikTok Studio shows creators views, average watch time, the share of viewers who watched the full video, and where views came from.

Metric What it tells you
Views on the last 20 posts The basis for your price
Average watch time and full-video views Whether the creator's hooks hold attention
Traffic sources, such as For You or followers How much reach comes from outside the creator's base
Audience country, age, and gender Whether the viewers match your buyers
Clicks, code redemptions, and Shop GMV Whether the video sold

Ask for screenshots of recent posts and collect post-launch numbers early. TikTok's own API documentation notes that some per-video data can become unavailable once a video has been inactive for more than 7 days.

Track clicks with a UTM link or an anchor link, which TikTok One supports. When you run a Spark Ad, Ads Manager adds paid metrics such as paid followers and paid profile visits, and TikTok One offers combined organic and paid reporting. Our guide to measuring sponsorship ROI shows how to add it up.

What mistakes do brands make on TikTok?

Most TikTok mistakes come from running the deal at the speed of a TV campaign.

  • Sending a finished ad for the creator to post. It looks like an ad and gets swiped.
  • Taking a week to approve a trend video. The trend will not wait.
  • Judging a creator on one post. Book at least three.
  • Buying 365 days of Spark rights up front. Start shorter and extend what works.
  • Letting a creator use a song from the general library. Ask for cleared audio.
  • Running a restricted-category deal outside TikTok One. The policy requires it.
  • Pricing on followers. Use the median of recent views.
  • Forgetting that affiliate deals need the disclosure toggle too.

Questions people also ask

Can I sponsor a TikTok creator without using TikTok One?

Yes, for most products. You can agree a deal with a creator directly and they post with the disclosure setting on. TikTok's Branded Content Policy requires TikTok One only for restricted industries such as alcohol, gambling, and vitamin supplements.

Whose name appears on a Spark Ad?

The creator's. A Spark Ad runs from the creator's account, so the profile photo and name are theirs, and tapping them opens the creator's profile. Viewers reach your site through the call-to-action button or the caption.

Can a creator delete a video I am running as a Spark Ad?

Not while it is authorized. TikTok's help center says a video has to be un-authorized as a Spark Ad before it can be deleted from the creator's account. Put a no-delete period in the contract anyway, so the organic post stays up after the ad ends.

Does the Paid partnership label hurt a video's reach?

TikTok's help page on the disclosure setting says nothing about reduced reach. It does say posts without proper disclosure may be removed or restricted, which is the bigger risk to your campaign.

Do TikTok Shop affiliate videos need a disclosure?

Yes. TikTok's Branded Content Policy counts affiliate commissions and promo-code commissions as branded content, so the creator must turn on the commercial content disclosure setting. US rules also expect the creator to say it in the video.
